Do Not Worry!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

I don’t know about all of you, but this time of year brings a lot of stress and anxiety. When my husband leaves for spring training my send off is, “See you in October!” I say this as a protection of my heart. It hurts to be away from him for extended periods of time. It isn’t easy taking care of our three boys, the house, and the finances pretty much alone. I know that he is here to support me, but over the phone isn’t as supportive as in person. This time of year brings back a lot of bad memories of previous years when our marriage wasn’t as strong and our walk with the Lord was just as weak.

Our lives are so different now. In Philippians 4 God reminds me of this. Prayer is not something God tells me I have to do; He is reminding me it is something I have the privilege to do. I get to carry all of my worries and anxieties about this coming season to the Lord. I need to make everything known to Him. I also need to be thankful to the Lord for all the great growth in my life because of Him.

By being thankful to the Lord and presenting all of my anxiety and worries to Him, the next verse tells us, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” What a gift! God’s peace is an overflowing peace of His Holy Spirit. We cannot fathom the greatness of His peace. Open your hearts and receive what we may not be able to understand. What a giving God - how blessed we are to be in the body of Christ.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, what ever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” Philippians 4:8. I encourage all of us to reach out to the Lord in prayer, give Him our request, and remember to thank Him for all of our blessings. Think about the positive in life! Think about God’s abundant love for you and your family!

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for being a giving God. Thank you for your strength and power to bless me when I am overwhelmed with the coming season.
