Church Home

"And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Baseball life is full of change. As a Christian, one constant is my relationship with Jesus Christ. Therefore, one of the first things I would do when settling in a new city was to find a solid Bible teaching church. Sometimes I visited several before deciding on a church “home”. Even though my husband could not attend with me, I knew I needed a church family and a place where I could worship the Lord and learn more about Him.

My experiences were varied. I tried different denominations and was, consequently, challenged to seek the truth in God’s Word for myself. It has been a great benefit to me over the years to have had different worship experiences. Also, I found friends who the Lord used to meet the wide range of needs I had during that period of my life.

Furthermore, I was mentored by mature Christian women who helped me learn some valuable lessons about marriage, childrearing, and living in this world. The value of those relationships far outweighed any concern related to my husband’s occupation.

We were designed by God to fellowship with other believers, and fellowship involves the mutual sharing of our faith. I wasn’t able to serve in a traditional way during those years, but God did allow opportunities for me to be an encouragement to my fellow believers. I left behind a trail of friends with each move, and I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything.

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the family of believers that exists all over the world, and for using so many of them – from different places – in my life. Thank you for the spiritual strength that comes from being under the sound of your Word, the encouragement to stand fast that comes from being with other Christians, and the motivation to live for you that comes from serving.
