Goodness Worth Waiting For

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever." (Psalm 118:1)

Well here it is, that busy time of year again. Getting ready for Spring Training is no small task; but I always enjoyed it. I looked forward to reuniting with friends and spending some time in the Florida sunshine. The year of my husband’s surgery, however, was a little different. At the beginning of February we were still in “wait mode,” not sure whether he would be ready or not. Since June I had felt trapped in this “wait mode” because we just didn’t know what the future held.

Psalm 118:1 got me through the waiting. It reminded me that no matter what, God is good and He loves me. He holds my future, so that’s all that matters. Being good and loving is who God is. He can’t be bad and unloving. Therefore I know that whatever is in store for my life will be good and from a loving God. This turned my entrapped waiting into excited anticipation for what lay ahead. Isaiah 40:31 says, “…those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Now that’s worth waiting for!

Through that time in my life, my desire was to see God’s goodness. I began to journal, which enabled me to see His work and goodness more clearly. It was such a blessing to me that I want to share the format that I use with you.

  • Each day I start out with what I call “Today’s Treasure,” a verse that God has given me through His Word that particular day. I encourage you to write out the verse. There’s just something about penning God’s very words.
  • Next I write what the verse means to me.
  • Then, I ponder “God’s Goodness” for the day and record it. I jot down ways He revealed Himself and things He did for me. Everyday it is something new and exciting. He never fails to be good to me.
  • Finally, I write down any answered prayers for the day. He is so faithful.

This type of journaling has helped me to be more aware of God’s involvement in my life on a daily basis. He is good and He loves me. It shows everyday.

God’s goodness and love can bring us through many things in our lives, especially times of waiting. It gives us comfort and hope. I’m so honored to see this goodness and love regardless of the circumstances I might find myself in. He will not let us down. Be encouraged, dear sister.

Prayer: Father, thank You for your goodness and love toward me. I know there are times when I don’t deserve it but you give it in spite of my failures. Help me to keep my focus on your goodness and love even in the hard times. I love You, Lord.
