"For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
Shells – perfectly formed – no cracks – no scratches – no chips. Everyone searches for these perfect shells. If you’re lucky, you might find one on your stroll along the beach.
But, stop and think. What’s under your feet as you search for the perfect shell? As you take each step, what supports your weight? What conforms to your foot? Millions and millions of tiny pieces of shells - chipped, cracked, and scratched. They lay there unnoticed, walked over, walked by, and pushed aside. Some have sharp edges, some smooth and soft. They are shiny and brilliantly colored, and dull and drab. What an awesome sight. Too many to ever count.
While we were in South Carolina for a ministry trip, I was able to take a walk with my son down the beach one day. As he ran up and down, and side to side trying to find the perfect shell, I was drawn to all the millions of pieces of shells that were under our feet, supporting us as we searched. I started to think about how God’s creation reflects Him so beautifully. What lessons we can learn by just slowing down and looking around.
Seeing those pieces of shells made me think of all the fragmented parts of our lives. God takes us, loves us, and cares for us just the way we are, beautifully broken. He loves our sharp edges and our dull shades, our smooth edges and our brilliant colors. He shapes and molds us just like the ocean waves constantly roll over the broken shells on the beach. I pray that He continues to take the pieces of our lives and our walks with Him, and consistently turns us over shaping us into the women He wants us to be.
Please take a moment for Him. Slow down and look around to see Him working in and around you.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for always teaching me, even when I allow myself to get too busy to see it, and for blessing me as I strolled down the beach.
