I wrote this devotional over 10 years ago. At the time, I was a brand new believer, and God was using the stresses of minor league life to mold my heart into a shape that trusted Him more completely. I love reading these words now, on the other side, knowing how everything turned out. Take some time today to look back and see what God has brought you through, and how your faith has been strengthened by challenging times.
This morning we found out that we were passed over for a promotion to the big leagues. Not to say that we deserve it more, but most people assumed we would be the ones getting that call. At times like this, it is so easy to become frustrated and sad and wonder why? But we only have to look to God for answers.
His Word and His promises comfort us and remind us that we have a blessed life. When we take a step back and look at the situation with the perspective God wants us to have, it is obvious that He has big plans for us that we cannot even fathom right now. We have been blessed with a wonderful marriage and family, friends, health, baseball; best of all we have the promise of new life.
Here are some verses I sent to my husband for encouragement and as a reminder that God is in control.
“Depend on the Lord; trust Him, and He will take care of you…Wait and trust the Lord. Don’t be upset when others get rich or when someone else’s plans succeed.” Psalm 37:5-6
“The ways of God are without fault.” Psalm 18:30
“The Lord says, ‘My thoughts are not like your thoughts. Your ways are not like My ways. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts’.” Isaiah 55:8-9
“Depend on the Lord in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3
These verses remind us that we should be patient and trust God to work in our life because His thoughts and plans are bigger than we know. Even if we never get that call, we can be happy because someday we will get the biggest call of all.
