"By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." (1 John 4:9-11)
How do I know God loves me?
God’s love is EXPLAINED. I know He loves me because He tells me so in His Word. The scripture that strikes me the most is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son... so that we may have eternal life.” His love is way beyond an emotion – it is that profound, sacrificial love that produces action. He gave His only son for me. For those of you who have children, could you even imagine sacrificing your child so that others could be forgiven of their sins? Or allowing your child to carry the weight of the world? I couldn't even fathom the thought! That is how much God loves me.
God's love is EVIDENT. I see it in my life each and everyday. This evidence gives a resounding testimony that what the scriptures say is true – God truly does love me! I recently did a timeline of my life. As I thought back I clearly saw that there was a time in my life when I knew about God, but did not know God personally. God was present during those years, as was His love, but I didn't know it. Throughout so many things that went on in those 21 years, God's Hand protected me – and yet I wouldn't even acknowledge Him. Eventually He drew me to Himself, and I met Him personally. The evidence of His love continues to stack up, day after day.
God’s love is EXPERIENCED. What a difference there is between knowing ABOUT God’s love and actually experiencing it! It doesn’t depend on our circumstances or even on ourselves. His love is truly eternal and faithful because HE is eternal and faithful. He doesn’t walk away when we mess up. Our enemy would try to convince us otherwise, but don't let Satan have a hold on your life or prevent you from walking in God’s love. Learn to love God with your whole heart, mind and soul – and experience a love that is only found in Him. You are deeply loved - and God wants you to be His sweetheart first and always.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the love that you lavish on your children. Although I will never be able to comprehend it, please help me to live in its power.
