"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
Can you believe it is almost that time again? As I begin to prepare for another baseball season, I start thinking about what I will need to pack, how long the drive will take, and what living arrangements I need to make. But perhaps the most important thing I need to prepare is my heart. It is easy now to walk in faith when I am surrounded by my friends, my church, and my Bible studies. I love the off-season for that; I feel like I become renewed in my faith. But when we move and the games start and I am in a new place with new people, it is easy to get off track. It is so easy to fall into the ways of the world when your heart is not prepared.
But I have to remember that God has put us in this situation for a reason, and that reason is to bring more people to His Kingdom. So, instead of slacking off during the season, I need to do the opposite. I need to continue to grow in my faith. I need to read more, pray more, journal more. And I need to prepare and protect my heart so that when I am tempted to go against what is right, I will not give in. When I am tempted to get anxious about our future, I will remember that God has great plans for us.
If I prepare my heart correctly for this new season that is coming, I know I will have peace in my heart, no matter what happens. Hopefully, I will also “overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 5:13) so that others will see the light within me.
Prayer: God, as this new season approaches, help me to prepare my heart so that I will never stray from your path of righteousness.
