God’s Love Letter

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” (Matthew 6:25)

I was first introduced to this verse as a tiny little fourth grader at church camp. At the time, I decided this would be my verse – something God had written for me. What insight I had as a 9 year old!

Through the years I have clung to this passage and refer to it as God’s love letter to me. Obviously, it wasn’t written for me personally, but I know it is in the Bible for me as a constant reminder of the caring love He has for me.

This passage has been revealed to me at times when I’ve needed it the most. As a woman in baseball, it’s almost impossible to not worry – Where are we going to live? Where am I going to work? Who will help me with the kids? Will my husband have a job? Will his bus be safe as they travel? Will I be safe in the house alone?

So many opportunities for the devil to sneak in and take that joy and assurance God has promised us. Every time I have been pushed to the edge, God has a funny little way of reminding me that it’s on Him I need to cast my fears - no matter what.

This was especially true when Tim and I experienced our first trade. As I was driving a packed car from Pennsylvania to Texas, I was feeling especially scared. A new team where we knew no one, a new city we had never been to, and 2 days worth of driving by myself to have it all run through my mind.

Practically the minute I crossed the Texas border in Texarkana, I looked up at a billboard only to read my verse! There it was, just staring at me, God saying to me, “I’m control! I will take care of you and I love you.” How awesome! He revealed His Word to me that day to remind me of His love.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for revealing yourself through your love letter to me just when I need you most. Help me to always, always remember it is YOU who has control of everything in this life.
