Comparison is a Thief

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin which so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Do you let comparison steal your joy? Do you compare your children’s behavior to other children? Do you compare your parenting skills to that of others, wishing you were a better mother? Do you compare your body to the women on television, or your husband’s performance on the field to that of others?

These days with Pinterest and Facebook, it is difficult to not constantly compare. I just spent a weekend at a women’s retreat where the majority of women admitted that comparison sometimes caused unhappiness and lack of fulfillment in their lives.

The Lord tells us to run the race he has set out for US, individually. He has written our story for our good for His glory. The devil uses comparison to steal our joy as he preys on the self-esteem of women. Don’t let comparison be a thief.

Fix your eyes on the Lord, study His Word, and remain in His presence constantly through prayer.

"Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him." 1 Corinthians 7:17

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for making me, loving me, and saving me - individually. Thank you for not only saving me from the penalty of my sin, but also from a life without purpose and hope. Help me to fix my eyes on Jesus in order to follow Him with all of my heart.
