Right With Jesus

“Anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:32-33)

In Matthew 10:32 Jesus says, "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge before my Father." Then Jesus goes on to talk about loving people or things more than him. He tells us if we do love other things or people more than him, we are not worthy of him...

How many times in our day do we sit and think about a relationship? A conversation? A situation? We can mull over it again and again. We are easily bothered by things that might not be going exactly the way we want. So we stew on it, and try to work it out in our mind, in hopes of making it better.

It might be a situation with our spouse. A parent. Our child. These are important people in our lives. But how great of a place are we giving these people in our lives? How much of our day is spent thinking about them or a situation with them? Have we made them or the situation an idol?

Jesus tells us in verse 37, "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me."

I was convicted a while back as I read Matthew 10 and realized I had spent too much time dwelling on conversations & situations that were going on in my life. When my need to be right with everyone around me is great...then God in my life tends to be small. I learned that when I am "right" with Jesus, I will be right with others.

As we put God first in our lives, he will then be a part of all the areas of our lives. He will be in the relationships guiding us in our steps. I know he will help me to have balance in the parts of the relationships I can control, and help me to give over the parts that I can't and shouldn't control. When we offer up our relationships and situations to God, he is placed first and we will be worthy of Jesus.

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for your word and for the reminder that as we put you first, you will help restore all else in our lives, and the details will fall into your perfect order.
