Perfect Provision

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting sands.” (James 1:17)

How amazing it is to look back over the years and see the faithfulness of God! He always keeps His promises – always keeps His word. Often He meets our needs before we’re even aware that they exist, and His endless provision is beyond description. He knows us completely, loves us infinitely and cares for us unceasingly. He provides just what we need at just the time we need it, and often does so in ways we would never have dreamed.

After two successful years at the major league level, we found ourselves on a team with a surplus of pitchers. Interestingly, I had been praying throughout Spring Training for the Lord’s help in solving a problem I was going to face during the summer. A dear childhood friend had asked me to be her Matron of Honor in her June wedding. I was thrilled to accept but had to figure out how to fulfill that role with my breastfeeding baby in tow. The options I had considered included taking my mother or a trusted babysitter along with me for the ceremony to be held in Estes Park, Colorado. What I had NOT considered was that God may see fit to put me in close proximity to my friend for the months leading up to the wedding day. When the cuts were made, we were off to play AAA baseball – in DENVER!

During those months back in AAA, Andy and I were in a position of leadership among our teammates due to our age and experience. We were able to share our faith in the Lord through our words and our actions. Furthermore, I thoroughly enjoyed the extra time with my friend. When it came time for the wedding weekend, God used one of the wives on the team to make our time even more special. Her family had a cabin several miles from the hotel in which I would be staying, so several of the wives decided to make it a mommy/child experience. They collectively cared for my daughter while I was occupied with wedding festivities. God’s provision was perfect.

Why do we ever doubt? Why do we ever fret? His ways are perfect and His timing exact. God’s great love for us can never be questioned, and His ways and wisdom are beyond our understanding. Thank you Lord!

Prayer: Father, I praise you for who you are and I thank you for the amazing love you demonstrated for me on the cross. Thank you for the way you provide for all of my needs just as you see fit.
