"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." (Romans 12:10)
In baseball, moves and trades are inevitable. One time, my husband was traded at the deadline and flew out immediately. Our stuff was in Texas, it needed to be moved to Tennessee, but I was in Florida. After 4 days of driving back to Texas, I get there only to find out he was hurt and would be flying out to Arizona to rehab for 8 weeks. Talk about a whirlwind!
Recently I was home in Florida with my baby, and my husband got the phone call that he was called up to AAA. He was on the road in Tennessee at the time. Luckily the team let him fly back to Mississippi to pack up and drive to the next destination in Georgia. The thought of a 20-hour drive with a 19-month-old was giving me anxiety, and I felt helpless as I tried to figure out how to help him.
Because we are free agents and new to our team, I haven’t had much time with the other girls. But one sweet wife texted me at 11:30pm asking for my husband’s number so she could help him pack everything up. That is one of the kindest things anyone has done for us. She woke up early, picked up breakfast, and went to pack up our apartment and make sure all our rentals were picked up...I mean really?! Only a baseball wife would do something so kind for another family. She knew I couldn't get back, and Jake couldn't do it alone. I had tears in my eyes having someone do something so nice when she has only known us a few short months. This is how incredible baseball girls are! We immediately become a family.
Every year God puts me with the most amazing girls. I learn from them, and gain so much respect for the ladies in this game. If you are having a hard time connecting or feel like everyone is different, focus on what you have in common. Reach out and sit with the new girl because let’s face it, we have all been the new girl at one point or another. Be the friend Christ wants us to be.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for the kind loving friends I have met in baseball, and for loving us unconditionally. Thank you for putting me with the best girls. I am so grateful for all you do for us!
