“For He does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.” (Lamentations 3:33)
On the plane ride home from a short stint in the majors with my husband, my heart lay heavy with emotions and circumstantial conflict. Kevin had just been sent down to AAA after a rough outing. He and I didn’t understand why the events in the past days had unfolded the way they had. It all felt like a slap in the face. This was not our ideal situation.
In baseball, we learn through the years to “roll with it.” We make the moves, make new friends, change teams, chaplains, doctors, churches, hotel, and schools. Our kids can even learn to adapt. Mine still think a hotel stay is blissful.
But can we admit that sometimes, as women, we do not understand why God has allowed certain conditions to come into our life? Why does he place us where we are?
This particular day on the plane, I pulled out of my bag a book given to me by our AAA chaplain titled, Trusting God. As I began to read, the tears poured like rain. I felt like God grabbed my face and said Child, I’ve got this one.
“Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it?”
God created me, my plan, my days, all before he breathed life into my body. This overwhelming idea rested on me. Though the questions in my earthly body still lay unanswered, I knew my GOD has commanded it. He gave me peace.
Girls, I encourage you this season, no matter the many circumstances you face, remember no one can command anything come to pass with out your GOD first commanding it. And it is for your good when you love him. He has you where you need to be for such a time as this. It may not be ideal, or picture perfect, but God sees the big picture. Get involved, go to bible study, encourage other wives, and use the tools God places all around you throughout the season to spread His love.
I love you baseball ladies. Happy Spring Training!
