David the Broken Man

Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man! The LORD, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul. I gave you your master’s house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more. Why, then, have you despised the word of the LORD and done this horrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife.” (2 Samuel 11:7-9)

David’s failures are well documented, but the hero in this story is Nathan. Do you have someone, anyone in your life that could call you out? You see David could have just killed Nathan, but instead, David mourned his sin and cried out to the Lord seeking forgiveness. “Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD. And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone” (Psalm 32:5). Psalm 32 may be one of the most important chapters in the Bible because David displays the key to restoration with the Lord. The Lord can work with a broken, humble man, but a man full of pride is useless to Him.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). Where do you go to find rest?

Question: How open and transparent are you? How many people know the depths of you?

Challenge: The Lord has given us so much and for many of us we tend to focus on what we don’t have…Your challenge is to try and be thankful for a bunch of little things today!

Prayer: Jesus thank you for allowing me to come to You with my broken parts and thank you for not withholding your love, grace and forgiveness from me.
