“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” (James 2:17)
There have been many times I have thought about the dreams, plans, and goals I had for my life, and how I felt I was so far away from accomplishing or reaching any of them. I would see those around me being successful in life, some even doing things I had dreamed of for years. And I wondered, how come they are doing the things I want to do? God, why are they successful in the field that you showed me? And then it hit me: obedience.
How many times had I found excuses to not do the things God had called or ask me to do? Whether out of fear or, if I’m honest, laziness, I had yet to take steps in doing the things I dreamed of doing. How could I question God about why He wasn’t blessing me in an area I had yet to step into?
The people I saw around me were successful because they took that first step.
Whether they were a believer or not, they were doing more than I was. Like James 2:17 says, faith without works is dead. I 100% believed that God is faithful and would bless the work of my hands, but I didn’t want to work.
God doesn’t work that way. He wants us to be obedient to His word, His commands. We have to put forth effort in life.
Step out in faith, give it our best and let God do the rest.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be obedient, even when it is hard. I pray that I’ll have enough faith to take that first step. Amen.
