"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)
God’s word tells us in Psalm 139:14, I AM FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE and that his works (that’s you!) are wonderful! Every part of you, every detail, was designed by God. Your hair, your skin, your body, your personality - nothing was left to chance.
The beautiful thing about the way God created us, is that beyond our external traits he also created each of us with unique gifts, skills, talents, abilities, and callings. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” We all have different strengths and weaknesses, and that is something we should rejoice in. You were created to be uniquely you for a purpose. If we were all the same, we would be a mess!
We need women with different capabilities and capacities so we can work together to grow and honor God in the environments he has placed us in. Comparing any part of ourselves or our situations with someone else’s takes away from the beauty and power God has designed us to walk in together.
He has you exactly where you are for a purpose, whether you can see that purpose right now or not. Baseball is hard. Sometimes it's incredibly isolating and lonely. Sometimes things look discouraging and bleak. Sometimes you wonder if it will ever pay off. Sometimes you wonder if the sacrifices are truly worth it, whether you “make it” or not. One thing is for sure, no matter how successful your boyfriend or husband might be, that success alone will never truly satisfy your heart!
We have to keep our hearts and our minds firmly planted in the truth: God has called us to walk the specific path we are on for a specific purpose. The God who sent his Son to die on the cross in place of your sin will not abandon you now. The Creator of the universe, who knows you by name wants you to trust him, not looking to the right or to the left, gauging how your story or your situation is measuring up to someone else’s.
Meditate on that truth today. Let it sink into your soul. Tomorrow we will look at some practical ways to fight against comparison.
Prayer: Father, thank you for creating me perfectly. I trust that you have a good plan for me, and I want to honor you in that. Thank you for promising that you will never fail me, I know that you are good and you keep your promises.
