Power Beyond Measure

“for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13)

God’s purpose for every Believer is that they be increasingly shaped into the image of Christ. And for whatever God requires of us, He always provides the empowerment by which it can be accomplished:

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to His own glory and excellence” (2 Peter 1:3).

The capacity of God’s power to work in us is described by the Apostle Paul as being “immeasurable” and “incomparably great” (Ephesians 3:20; 1:19a). This power becomes increasingly active in us as our affections for Him become increasingly kindled. This happens as we come to ever more appreciate our desperate condition apart from Him, His loving deliverance through the provision of a Savior, and the promises that accrue to us as adopted members of His family:

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14).

This is the good news of God’s grace. Our Christian life begins when we appropriate its truth and apply it to ourselves. Our Christian life grows as we commit to knowing Him more intimately, drawing on His provision for us more fully, and allowing His power to be reflected in the distinctiveness of our transformed lives, lived to His glory.

Question: Do you realize the stunning power that God makes available to us through our relationship with Him?

Challenge: Preach Colossians 1:13-14 to yourselves every day. Meditate on it.

Prayer: Lord, show us yourself. To truly know you is to be irresistibly drawn to your love and grace.
