Declare the Glory of God

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork… Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:1; 14)

In this Psalm, David states the heavens—the sun, the moon, the stars—declare the glory of the creator. He ends this Psalm of praise by praying that his words and thoughts would do the same—bring glory to God. That is the role of God’s creation. People can see that there is a Creator-God by looking around and seeing what God has made. “They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God” (Romans 1:19-20).

Although they can see that there is a God, they need to hear about Him from us. “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” (Romans 10:14).
God’s creation is to work together to declare the Glory of God. We need to tell people about Jesus and live in a way that points them to Him.

“Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).

Question: Do the words of your mouth and the way that you live declare to others that Jesus is Lord?

Challenge: Evaluate your words, your thoughts, and your actions and see if they declare the glory of God.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for opportunities to declare you to others. Help me today to declare the Glory of the Lord by my words, my thought and my actions.
