Avoid Error

Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.” (Matthew 22:29)

In the hypothetical logic of His opponents the Sadducees criticized Jesus’ teaching about the resurrection. In their minds resurrection was impossible. In response, Jesus exposed their error, an error into which we too can fall. In the face of life’s dilemmas, the Scripture and the power of God are more trustworthy than our flawed logic.

In the Bible, God gives us many answers important for life. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105 – all of Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, is about the value of Scripture). “All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). We can hold the Scripture in our hands and read it in our own languages. It is one of God's greatest gifts to mankind. If we know Scripture we avoid wrong thinking about life, death, God, Jesus, salvation, and many other essentials. Will you invest yourself to know the Scripture?

God also shows His power. The designer and creator of the universe can make anything out of nothing. He can do miracles, set aside His created order, and reach into our individual lives and change everything. “For nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). It is time to stop limiting God and His work.

Question: Where do I need God's power to work in my life?

Challenge: Do something today to know Scripture better.

Prayer: Almighty God, open my eyes to the truth of your Word and the power of your work.
