Examine Yourself

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5)

As he closes this letter to Christians in the city of Corinth, Paul lays down a heavy challenge. Examine your life! The Message Bible says it this way, “Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you.” Will you take this challenge from the Bible seriously? If so, let me suggest three areas in your life to examine. Do you see Jesus impacting the way you handle your time, talents, and treasure?

Time is our most precious commodity. God determines how much of it we have, but we determine how we use it. Does Jesus impact how you use your time? Do you see wasting time as spiritual failure?

Talents are as unique as individuals. Some we are born with, some we learn by practice and discipline. Will you offer Jesus your talents? How can He use them to further God’s Kingdom advance? Will you let Jesus direct the use of your talents today?

Treasure in our culture is usually measured by money. Do you use your money selfishly or generously? Will you let Jesus have the final word in the use of your money – all of it?

Question: With ruthless honesty before God, does Jesus direct how I use my time, talents and treasure?

Challenge: Do not coast on past success, offer yourself to God afresh today.

Prayer: Father, give me the courage to see myself like You see me. I do not want to fail the test.
