Praise God for His Word

“But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:14-15)

As is pointed out in many of the Psalms, God is worthy of our praise. The Psalmist praised God for His Word and what it does. Some of those praise-deserving things the Word does are:

It Nourishes Us. – “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not whither. Whatever he does prospers” (Psalm 1:1-3).

It Revives Us. -  “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb” (Psalm 19:7-10).

It Protects Us. – “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your Word. I seek You with all my heart; do not let me stray from Your commands. I have hidden Thy Word in my heart that I might not sin against You. Praise be to You, O Lord; teach me Your decrees” (Psalm 119:9-12).

It Guides Us. – “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).

Final Thought - God didn’t give us His Word only so He could author the best selling book ever, but it is (more than six billion copies sold)! He didn’t give us His Word just so that it could be the most translated book of all time, but it is (more than 2,000 languages and dialects)! He gave us His Word so that we may know Him and by His grace through faith become His children. Memorize Romans 10:17. “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”
