Continually Looking Up

"Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always." (Psalm 105:4)

There is no formula for prayer. One of the things that has most helped my prayer life is realizing that prayer is less an activity that we do, and more an attitude that we develop and maintain. While it is true that we need to be intentional about making time in our day to be still and meditate on God and His Word, I think it’s essential that we understand that prayer is a dialogue (not a monologue) that never stops. It’s an on-going dependence on the Lord where we constantly invite Him into our daily life and challenges in real time. He is with us always and we need to practice seeking Him and depending on Him throughout the day.

That’s why I love today’s verse. It is a reminder that we are to be always looking up. Seeking His presence, His strength, and for Him to reveal Himself in every situation. The Bible says that we are to “pray without ceasing,” “at all times,” and with “all kinds of prayers.” There is no moment too small, no issue too trivial. God wants us to be in constant communication with Him. My encouragement for you today is to take that inner dialogue that you are having with yourself throughout the day, and invite God into it. Seek his face always.

Question: What’s your biggest challenge today?

Challenge: Offer that to Him right now in faith. What are you about to do (right after you finish reading this?) Tell Him about it. Ask Him to reveal Himself throughout your day.

Prayer: O Lord, teach us to pray.
