What Does God Want You to Do?

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

This is a great question that we all need to consider. This verse tells us three things God requires of us: be fair, be kind and be humble. I like how the Message translates this verse: “But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what GOD is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously—take God seriously.”

“Be fair and kind” means to treat others the way you want to be treated. When we see someone in need, we should have compassion and try to treat him or her in the way God has treated us. “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32).

In order to do this we need to humble our self before God and take on the attitude of Jesus. He put others before Himself, even though He was the creator God. He came to die for us. “Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ, who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God, but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men. And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal’s death on a ” (Philippians 2:5-8).

What does God want us to do? Be fair, be kind, and be humble. Each day we have to look around and see who we can humbly treat as Jesus would.

Question: Are you willing to have the same attitude as Jesus? Will you be fair and kind in your actions toward others today?

Challenge: Look around, look for someone that needs to be treated with fairness and kindness today.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for humbly coming to earth to show me Your fairness and kindness. Help me to have that same attitude as I go through this day.
