Do What God Says Is Right

“There was no king in Israel in those days, and every man did whatever he thought was right.” (Judges 21:25)

This verse is how the Bible book of Judges ends. Sounds just like the attitude in our world today—do what you think is right. We need to take time to consider what God wants, not just what we want. Look at these verses and do what God says is right.

Regarding others, “Have real love for everyone because your souls have been cleansed from selfishness and hatred when you trusted Christ to save you; so see to it that you really do love each other warmly, with all your hearts” (1 Peter 1:22).

Regarding our attitude, “Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do. 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers” (Philippians 4:4-6).

And regarding our focus, “Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:8-9).

Notice the ideas listed in these verses: put others first; love others, be full of joy; don’t worry, but pray and be thankful. Our world wants to do what they think is right, but we need to put into practice what the Bible tells you. Do not do what you think is right, do what God in His Word tells you is right. Do right each day!

Question: Are you willing to obey the Lord even when it is counter to our culture? Are you willing to put others first?

Challenge: Take time this week to be loving, joyful, prayerful and thankful.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for all You do for me each day. Help me to follow what You tell me to do, even when others tell me to do what I think is right, I need to do what You say is right.
