Called

“Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him.” (1 Corinthians 7:17)

What has God done to prepare you for the uncertainty of the game? What about the current social dynamic? Has God prepared you for this? We seem to be in unprecedented times, and while that may be the case on a personal level, this is hardly the first time our broken world has been at risk. If I could answer those questions for you, I would say He has certainly prepared all of us for what we go through, not just now but in the midst of every moment, good and bad.

We might say, “I don’t feel prepared.” And I would agree it can certainly feel that way. But we have at our disposal the One that created, guides and has redeemed this world. Our verse today speaks to a people that wanted to be one thing instead of another. But the author shares that we simply have to be who we were created to be. He even says, “This is my rule in all the churches” (1 Corinthians 7:17). Looking closer now, we see the “Lord has assigned” and “God has called.” So another question: If God has assigned and called, does he also prepare?

Maybe this will clear it up. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). He does not call us without working in us and through us. So in a time of great uncertainty, being His workmanship, lets walk in those good works and be the men we were created to be.

Question: Are you called to an occupation, or a people group?

Challenge: Memorize Ephesians 2:10

Prayer: Father, help me be obedient to your calling, to those to whom you have called me.
