Fear the Lord

“Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands…Surely he will never be shaken…he will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will triumph over his foes.” (Psalm 112: 1; 6-8)

During these challenging days of uncertainty where the world is facing a killer virus, the scriptures encourage us with incredible truth, hope and promise that the man of God can cling to with great assurance. Nothing this side of heaven is worthy of our fear, save the Lord.

Yes, we have to be cautious. Yes, we have to do our due diligence to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Yes, we have to be prepared. But the truth in Psalm 112 reminds us that we never need fear! The truth is that our God is in control! He is sovereignly ruling over the whole earth (including the Coronavirus pandemic), and He is in control of our very lives. Remember the truth of Psalm 139:16, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Therefore, Let us encourage each other to continue to trust in the Lord with all of our heart during these trying days. Do not be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:6). Instead, let us fix our eyes and our hearts solely on the Lord Jesus Christ, who reigns and rules over the whole universe, and who will safely lead us through these perilous times. Praise the Lord! Our God reigns! He will triumph over every foe!

Question: Are you trusting in the Lord and finding great delight in his word during these challenging days?

Challenge: Let’s spend less time consumed by the television news and spend more quality time being reminding ourselves and being encouraged by the truths found in the God's Word.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being in control of every situation, even those that seem perilous to me. Strengthen my heart during these days and help me to trust you more and never fear.
