Magnify the Lord

“Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34:3-4)

Magnify the Lord! Another version says “Join me in spreading the news.” We need to let others see Jesus. We are to “exalt His name together.” This should be our reaction to who God is, but also for what He does. The key is the next verse—when we pray and seek the Lord, He answers. Notice for David, when he prayed God delivered him from all his fears (Go read 1 Samuel 21 to better understand his fears).

When we pray, God hears. David says this again in verse 17: “When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” You also see this in the New Testament. “Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you”  (1 Peter 5:7). “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers” (Philippians 4:6).

When we understand that God is in control and wants us to depend on Him, fear is driven away. No matter what is going in your life right now, God knows all about it, He cares about what concerns you and is ready to deliver you from all your fears. That should cause us to rejoice and magnify the Lord. Like David, call on the Lord and see what He will do for you. David knew God was faithful and that He could be trusted to help and deliver him. Oh, put God to the test and see how kind he is! See for yourself the way his mercies shower down on all who trust in him (Psalm 34:8).

Question: How can you magnify the Lord today? What cares and fears do you need to give to Him?

Challenge: Take time today and pray through Psalm 34, and “taste and see that the Lord is good.”

Prayer: Lord, thank you for hearing me when I call. I cast all my concerns and fears on you. Help me to magnify you before others each day.
