Who Are You?

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

What if I don’t (insert your passion here)? Have you thought about who you are without looking at what you do? So actually, the question “What if I don’t __________?” is really the wrong question. A better question is “Who am I?”  You see, this question focuses more on the total “you” and not just on the “what you do” part of you.

Our God looks at all of you. For the majority reading these devotionals their vocation is baseball. And one can easily get convinced into believing that who you are is totality wrapped up in what you do. But that line of thinking would be wrong.

When we ask this question its best to find the answers in Scripture. If we look to find an answer in the world it will be skewed. Satan wants us to be ruled by him – with fear, lies, and a false sense of what’s important. But if we look to God’s Word we have a totally different picture of who we are.

The first thing to see is that “So you are no longer a slave, but God's child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” Galatians 4:7. You are a child of God. Your identity is not found in this world but in God through Jesus Christ.

The second thing to see is “you can do all things through Christ Who gives you strength” (Philippians 4:13). “All things” means your passion is just a portion of what you can do. It's not who you are.

Finally, “you are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you.” (Romans 8:37). Whatever God calls you to do or walks you through, you can do it through Him.

Question: Who are you?

Challenge: Find your identity in Christ not in things of this world. Open His Word and let Him speak to you!

Prayer: Father, thank You that I am your child and that who I am is found in you. Help me to remember that as I go through life and its joys and challenges. Amen.
