Throw Your Cares on Jesus

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7)

This verse contains two commands: We are to humble and cast. The word “casting” here in Greek (the language that it was written in) literally means “throwing out.” We might use it for throwing out the trash, just hurl it into the trash can, don’t think about it, just do it. That is what the Lord wants us to do with our anxieties. Throw them onto Jesus, forgot about it and let Him take care of it.

Whatever has us anxious, Peter here does not address circumstances that are causing fear and anxiety, we need to give to Jesus and trust Him to help us. ometimes we are not willing to do this because we think we can take care of the circumstances that are causing the fear and worry, that is why we need to look at the first command: “Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God.” We have to set aside our pride and tell Jesus, “here is my burden, You take it!

We need to be willing to exchange our anxieties for His peace. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”  (Philippians 4:6-7).

Question: Are you willing to humble yourself and give everything over to the Lord? What anxieties are weighing you down today? Do you want to experience the Peace of God? Then obey His commands!

Challenge: Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, set aside self-righteous pride, so that He may exalt you to a place of honor in His service at the appropriate time, 7casting all your cares, all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all on Him, for He cares about you with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully. (1 Peter 5:6-7)

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for caring for me. Help me to humbly cast all my concerns and fears on You and trust You to give me Your Peace.
