Come Drink the Living Water

Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.” (John 7:37)

Water is a basic need in order to live. This is what I found when I googled how long can you live without water: “The body needs lots of water to carry out many essential functions, such as balancing the internal temperature and keeping cells alive. As a general rule of thumb, a person can survive without water for about 3 days.”

Jesus is saying that we also cannot live without “living water” He offers. He is talking about spiritual life and He adds: “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:38)  We need this life giving water.

We need to come to Jesus for this living water in order to gain eternal life. Jesus is the only source and way to heaven. But we also need this living water daily in order to live the Christian life in a way that pleases God. We must let the living water flow out of us so that others will see Jesus and be drawn to Him.

First we need to drink the living water that Jesus offers to us and trust Him and what He did on the cross for us. Then we need to live in a way that will lead others to come and drink of this living water.

Question: Have you come to Jesus and accepted the living water He offers?

Challenge: Living in such a way today that others will be drawn to the living water?

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for offering me the living water that satisfied my thirst for God and allowed me to gain eternal life. Help me to live so others will see You in me and allow me to bring them to the living water.
