He Is Our Source

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him." (Psalm 28:7)

When the long season has ended and, for many of you, life’s future is uncertain, that is exactly the time we need to make God our source of strength. It is a time when often we do not know what lies ahead for our families. It is a time when we need to call on the Lord for strength, asking Him to give us the words we need to encourage our husbands and to remain firm in the knowledge that He will provide for our every need.

It is a very difficult thing for a man to lose his job, to feel rejected, and to feel a loss of purpose. I have recently gone through this with my own husband, and it is hard for me to not feel resentful, upset or discouraged when I know that is how he feels. Despite the fact that we all know this is a business and, as we all always say, “That’s just baseball,” when it's your husband, it is different somehow and becomes very personal. Now my husband and I understand much better the feelings of those many who have gone through this before, and how important the phone calls of encouragement really are.

In the transition time I called on the Lord to give me the strength I needed to say the right things and to not put pressure on on my husband about anything. If God chooses for him to be “retired,” this will be a very different time for us without the everyday baseball life.

I do not know what lies ahead. What I do know is that God is in control, HE knows what the future holds, and HE will be our source of strength in everything that is to come. Amen!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being my source of strength. You are always there for me, and for that I am exceedingly thankful.
