“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)
This verse can bring such peace, but it’s one of the hardest to obey. As a baseball wife it seems like our lives are a constant fight. Fighting to make a team, fighting to fit in on a new team, fighting to learn a new city, a new language, fighting to make life more normal for our children, to spend more time with our husbands. Some days it seems like the fight is never ending, but we need only be still and know that He is God.
This past off-season, my husband and I experienced the fight of our lives as we witnessed our newborn four-pound baby fight for her life. We made sure we got her to the best doctors, the best hospital, and took the best care of her that we could. In the end, no matter how hard we fought, we ultimately lost her to a genetic disease when she was five months old.
It didn’t matter what was done here on earth because the Lord had already written her story. He healed our baby; she is dancing in heaven and we have peace because we will see her again.
The truth is, the Lord fought the ultimate battle and it was won on the cross, so we need only be still and enjoy the mercies He has given us here on earth, no matter what city we are sent to.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you love us enough to fight for us. Forgive us when we feel we can control our situation more than you can. I pray we will be more aware of the blessings you have given us, even in this crazy baseball life.
