The Permeating Word of God

“Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.” (Proverbs 15:30)

I love garlic. I look for ways to incorporate it into everything and try to find a use for it in every situation. The trouble with garlic though, is that it smells. In fact, it’s almost impossible to hide the fact that you consumed it, even if it was just a little bit. It permeates everything. Garlic takes your breath away and practically floats on the air around you, lingering on your skin. And although garlic does great things for the user, the side effects are not always so welcomed by those with whom you come in contact!

What if we indulged in the Word of God with as much gusto as garlic? What if we looked for ways to incorporate the Good News into everything, searching for a way to use it in every situation? For, if we did, it would be almost impossible to hide, even if it was just a little bit! The Word of God is so breathtaking and good that it permeates everything, wafting on the air before and around us, permeating our entire being.

Wow, and the wonderful thing about God’s Good News is that not only is it great for the user, but the side effects are a joyfully welcomed by those with whom we come in contact!

Thanks be to God!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the Bible. Thank you for providing a wellspring for my well being. Help me to dive into your word with as much fervor as I do other things. Amen.
