It's interesting to see how baseball brings together such a melting pot of women. We are from different places, have different experiences, upbringings, values, and faiths. But we all come together with the common bond of the game. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to make friends with many sweet girls this season. Having the support and community with each other is so valuable!
Along with the benefit of a support system, we gain an opportunity to be lights for the Gospel. Something I'm learning is that the best way to truly show Christ to the people around me is by intentionally developing relationships. But developing relationships isn’t always simple. People are different, and sometimes baseball is literally the only thing you have in common. However, we can choose to put our own preferences aside to identify with the people around us in order to build relationships.
In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul talks about facing similar situations, and how he chose to deny his own preferences in order to meet the lost around him right where they were, so that he would have the opportunity to show them the Gospel.
If we take the time and make the effort to show kindness and genuine interest in the women around us despite our differences, we can open the door to sharing the love of Christ with them.
Baseball is hard. Life is hard. But knowing and sharing Jesus makes it worthwile. Meeting people where they are paves the way for us to be soul-winners and make an impact for eternity.
