One Way

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6)

You have likely heard someone say, “There are many paths to God.” Or “All paths lead to God.” They are right. All paths do lead to God. No matter how you live your life; no matter what you do or don’t do, one day you will stand before God. Some will receive a joyful welcome from their creator, but many others will face judgment and condemnation. You see, all paths lead to God, but only one path leads to heaven, to eternity with Him.

Anyone who comes before God standing on their own merit will be judged and justly condemned, for “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Way short. It’s not even close. As it says in Isaiah 64:6, “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” before a holy God. Our sin separates us from God, and if not atoned for that separation will be for all eternity. We are left to ask, “How then can we be saved?” (Isaiah 64:5b).

Enter Jesus. God with us. “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7). Let me explain. Because God loves us, even though we’re sinners, He made a way for us to be right with Him. He became one of us in the person of His Son, Jesus. Jesus shared everything about our humanity, except He never sinned. Therefore, He was able to take the penalty for our sins upon Himself by dying in our place. Think of it: “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Question: Have you placed your faith in Jesus? It’s the only path that leads to heaven.

Challenge: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your saving grace and your promise of eternal life for all who trust you.
