“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

Isn’t it easy to spend a lot of time stressing, fearing, and wondering about the future? How often we can feel uneasy when things are uncertain. But our feelings of unease about the future are telling us something. If we trusted that God would take care of us, would we ever worry? No.

And so when we do worry, fear, and stress, that is telling us that we aren’t trusting God. We either doubt that He will do what is right or that He has the power to do what is right. Of course, we might not be expressing doubts out loud, and we might not even admit them to ourselves. But that is what our emotions tell us about how we really feel. Fear of the future is doubt about God.

Romans 8:32 gives us a promise that should silence every voice of doubt that comes into our hearts. Romans 8:32 tells us that the God who has already met our greatest need at the cross will not abandon us now. God did not consider the life of His precious Son too great a price to pay for your salvation.

Instead, he has shown you how much He loves you, values you, and is committed to you by sending Jesus to die in your place. And so, as we look back and see how God has cared for us in the past, that should give us faith in how God will care for us in the future. And as we look back at God’s faithfulness in the past and trust Him for the future, that will provide peace for our present.

Question: What things do you stress about?

Challenge: Tell God how you feel and confess ways that you can doubt him. Then ask for His help to trust Him more.

Prayer: God, we don’t know the future, but we do know you. And so help us to trust you as our unshakeable God even when things in the future are uncertain to us.
