God’s faithfulness is a resounding theme of scripture. “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations” (Psalm 100:5). “For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever” (Psalm 117:2).
Human beings will fail you, but God never fails to be faithful. And God’s faithfulness is not just in general; it’s specific too. For example, God is faithful to forgive us: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
God is faithful to deliver us from temptation: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
God is faithful in His sanctifying work. That’s what the “it” in today’s focal verse is referring to: “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). This is a promise from God to be faithful in helping you grow as a Christian as you trust and follow Him. “God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:9).
And God is faithful to protect us from Satan’s accusations and attacks: “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3)
God’s faithfulness means that we can count on him to keep His promises and complete His work in us. He will not leave us unfinished or unequipped to handle life’s challenges. Thank God for His faithfulness.
