Trust Your Unclear Future to the Unchanging God

“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

We don’t know the future. Fear of the unknown can become a preoccupying worry that adds tremendous stress to our lives. But, while we might not always know what will happen, we can always trust the One who is ultimately in control of what will happen. Anxiety is doubt that God will take care of us. But the God who sent Jesus to the cross to die in our place is the God who has proven that He will always do what is best for us.

If God was unwilling to spare even his own Son because He wanted to save, rescue, and redeem us, do we really think He will leave us now? God is unchanging, and so the love He has shown us in Jesus is the love that He still has for us and is our assurance that He will always take care of us.

Brain scans show that fear and gratitude take place in the same part of our brains. And so it is impossible to feel fearful and grateful simultaneously. So when you start to feel afraid of what you don’t know, take time to stop and think and pray with gratitude for what you do know. In Jesus, we can know that God is for us, that He loves us, and that He will take care of us. We can trust our uncertain future to the unchanging God.

Question: What tempts you to be afraid?

Challenge: Start your day by thanking God for at least one thing He has given you.

Prayer: God, when I don’t know what will happen help me to trust who you are.
